Emergency luminaires
Each fitting checked for correct operation and light output when normal power is lost.
Cairns & Far North Queensland
Testing, inspection, reporting and maintenance of emergency and exit lighting for commercial, government and managed facilities across Cairns and Far North Queensland.
Why it matters
When the power fails, emergency lights illuminate escape routes and exit signs show people the way out. These systems sit idle most of the time, so a flat battery or failed lamp often goes unnoticed until the moment it is needed.
Regular inspection and testing is how building owners and facility managers in Cairns confirm their emergency and exit lighting will actually work, identify failures early and keep the records needed to show testing has been done.

Scope
A complete check of the emergency and exit lighting across your site.
Each fitting checked for correct operation and light output when normal power is lost.
Exit signs inspected for illumination, visibility, damage and correct operation.
Battery-backed fittings tested to confirm they run for their required duration.
Damaged, missing or failed fittings, diffusers and lamps identified and recorded.
Every failure logged by location so rectification can be planned and tracked.
Standards
Emergency and exit lighting in Australia is covered by AS 2293. Our testing and inspection is carried out with reference to the applicable requirements of that Standard, including routine inspections and discharge testing.
We can talk you through the testing schedule that applies to your building and help keep it on track. Testing identifies and records faults — rectifying those faults and maintaining records is what keeps a system in good working order.
Explained
A discharge test simulates a loss of normal power. Power to the emergency lighting circuit is interrupted and each battery-backed fitting must keep operating for its required duration — commonly 90 minutes.
Fittings that dim, flicker or switch off early usually point to a failed battery or faulty component. These are recorded by location so they can be repaired and retested.
Documentation
Facility and property managers need more than a pass or fail. After testing you receive clear documentation covering:
Records are easy to file and share with building owners, government asset managers and auditors.
Rectification
Testing commonly finds failed batteries, faulty fittings, damaged exit signs and lights that do not operate on loss of power. Because we are licensed electrical contractors, we can fix what we find rather than just reporting it:
If testing finds failed emergency or exit lights, we identify the defect and provide a replacement quote straight away. Once approved, repair or replacement can be completed promptly where practical, or scheduled as required.
Ongoing testing
Emergency lighting testing is recurring work, not a one-off. We set up scheduled testing with reminders so it does not lapse, and can coordinate visits across multiple properties, commercial sites, housing portfolios, school campuses and government facilities.
Each site gets consistent records, making it simpler to track your whole portfolio. Testing can be combined with test and tag and RCD testing to reduce site visits.
Coverage
Based in Far North Queensland, we test emergency lighting in Cairns and across the Atherton Tablelands, Cape York, the Torres Strait, the Gulf Country and remote FNQ communities and sites.

FAQ
Testing intervals are set by AS 2293 and the requirements that apply to your building. We can confirm the routine inspection and discharge testing schedule that applies to your site and set up recurring testing so it stays on track.
It is a discharge test. Normal power to the emergency lighting is interrupted to simulate a power failure, and each battery-backed fitting is checked to confirm it keeps operating for its required duration. Fittings that dim or go out early are recorded as defects.
The failed fitting is identified and recorded with its location and likely cause, and we provide a replacement quote straight away. Depending on the fault, we can replace the battery, tube or lamp, or the complete fitting or exit sign — completed promptly where practical or scheduled as required — then retest and update your records.
Yes. You receive clear records of the fittings tested, the results, any defects found and the rectification completed, along with logbook updates and maintenance recommendations.
Yes. We can schedule testing across several properties, campuses or facilities and provide consistent records for each site, making it easier to manage recurring testing across a portfolio.
